Matthew 11:28-30 (TPT) “Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Then come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. (29) Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. (30) For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.”
Part of learning the ways of the Lord is through fellowship and even brief interactions with others. Allowing our compassion to connect to others is a direct ‘way’ of the Master.
It is good to spend time with God alone and as often as we can, but retreating too often or too much can cause us to start isolating ourselves during times when we should be around people the most. On the other hand, not spending enough time with Him can leave our beauty dull in some areas.
Ask yourself questions like: Do I allow myself fellowship time with others to foster compassion, or do I rush through encounters with people?
Today, connect your compassion to what Jesus connected His to: others. Disconnect from unrealistic expectations of reciprocated compassion from others. Help because they need it, help because you need it.
